About Us

Crouse Workshop LLC carries forward a proud legacy of craftsmanship, artistry, and family tradition. The business was originally founded in 1972 by Lawrence Crouse under the most romantic of circumstances. When Larry asked for Martha’s hand in marriage, her father encouraged him to pursue a meaningful career first. With a background apprenticing under a Virginian cabinet maker, a deep appreciation for Martha’s parents’ antique collection, and inspiration from his own father’s custom home construction business, Larry found his calling. He began restoring antiques for local dealers and collectors—winning both the perfect partner and the perfect profession.

Over time, those restoration projects evolved into requests for custom furniture. Larry embraced the challenge and became passionate about creating high-caliber reproduction pieces. His work grew to include dressers, corner cabinets, grandfather clocks, and dining tables, eventually earning him recognition as an expert in 18th-century American furniture.

As the business expanded, Larry began selling wholesale to respected shops across the country and internationally. He also contributed his craftsmanship to the National Park Service, with several exhibits featuring his pieces. Throughout his career, Larry remained a mentor and inspiration to many—including his son, Abe.

Abe often says he’s been part of the business since he “was old enough to push a broom.” Over the years, he worked closely alongside his father, learning the trade and bringing his own perspective to the designs. Abe’s personal favorite is the collection of handcrafted chairs—if you own a Lawrence Crouse chair, there’s a good chance Abe made it himself.

Following a devastating fire in June 2024 and the passing of Lawrence in November of the same year, Abe and his wife Diana have stepped forward to carry on the legacy through Crouse Workshop LLC. In the face of loss and challenge, they remain committed to honoring Larry’s vision and values. With the same dedication to quality, detail, and timeless design, the workshop continues to produce furniture that is more than functional—it is heirloom art that will last for generations.
